More About Fees

Divorce

A straightforward, undefended divorce costs from £300 plus VAT (£52.50)

In addition court fee are payable. These are- £300  for the initial issue fee and £40 decree absolute fee.

Additional work where the other party defends the case or refuses to acknowledge receipt of the petition are charged according to the time taken.

Financial Arrangements

For preparation of a financial agreement and submission to court the fee is £350 plus VAT (£61.25)

In addition there is a court fee of £40.

Amendments/alterations are charged according to the time taken to make them.

Negotiating your agreement

As it is not possible to say how much work is involved in a particular case, fixed fees cannot be offered.

Work is charged by the hour and we will discuss inadvance how many hours work is required in your case. The hourly rate is £100 plus VAT.

As a general guide a settlement can normally be negotiated within a budget of £750 to £1500 plus VAT, failing which it may be considered more appropriate to proceed to make a court application. If your case is complicated or the net value of your assets exceeds £250,000 the cost can be higher than this. A specific estimate will be given to you and you will receive regular updates.

Court Applications.

Most people manage to agree how their  assets should be divided without applying to court.

For those who can't agree a court application can actually be more economical than pressing on with negotiation.

On average each of the three stages of court proceedings will cost £1500 plus VAT. In addition there may be a house valuation and a barristers fee.

The majority of cases settle before the third hearing.

Summary

There is no such thing as an average case but as a rule for the majority of my clients their divorce will be compromised and completed within a budget of £2500 to £5000, while a small number will cost up to £10,000. For clients with very complex cases or substantial assets the fee is likely to be significantly higher.
